CHAPTER 16

Liam

Three weeks of wet dreams featuring Rose had left me more satisfied than I’d been in a long time. Almost every night since she had first appeared in my nighttime fantasies, I’d dreamed of her, envisioned and acted out all the ways I would ravage her welcoming body.

Each night, she would beg for my cock, and I gave her everything she desired. I pounded into her tight, wet warmth until she screamed my name and I came deep inside her.

Against all logic, I roused each morning content instead of sexually frustrated, as if I were actually releasing inside her for the last three weeks. Impossible, of course, but the dreams had been a huge relief and kept my wolf from doing anything irrational.

It’s only irrational to you two-legs, my wolf said with an obvious eye roll. Claiming one’s mate is as rational as it gets in the wolf world.

Chuckling, I stretched out in my bed. Somehow I hadn’t managed to come all over the sheets, yet I still woke relaxed and satisfied. Whatever was happening, it had started at the right time.

Only one more night to go until the full moon. One more night until I could claim Rose for real, and spend every day and night afterward exploring her delicious curves.

Luna help me, I was an addict.

After the first nighttime experience, I had remembered the silver necklace. I’d returned to the location near the falls where we’d found her, wanting to retrieve the necklace as a gift. Perhaps it would trigger a memory, no matter how small.

Only some nesting animal must have beaten me to the punch. It was a disappointment, but I was sure I could figure out something else that would make her smile.

Pack emotions, mainly excitement and agitation, filtered into my consciousness. Frowning, I rolled out of bed and threw on nearby sweatpants and a clean t-shirt before heading downstairs. The house was empty, no Cecilia this morning.

I opened the door and came face-to-face with a fist about to knock.

“What’s happening?” I asked.

Caleb grinned. “A witch has been scented. Only a few miles from here.”

My heart beat faster. Finally, we had a chance to get some answers. “Gather the hunters.”

Releasing an excited whoop, he ran off to do my bidding, and I loped toward the communal hall where we would assemble. A small crowd had already gathered, and excitement buzzed in the air. The intensity grew as I approached.

By now, everyone knew Rose’s story, that a coven of witches had held her captive and chased her into our woods when she escaped. Over the last month, most of the pack had embraced her like one of our own, and after tomorrow night, she would be.

I had no doubt she would accept my offer to stay permanently, even if her memories returned. With luck—or torture, if necessary—we would convince the witches to undo whatever curse they’d placed on her.

The light floral scent of moonflowers drifted beneath my nose, and I turned to face Rose. Even now, my heart leaped at the sight of her, and my wolf howled in our thoughts.
